Fabric Sculptures by Jennifer Wintress
Through different moments in time, we are faced with transition. How we navigate uncertain and disorienting intervals can provide healing and growth. The loss and trauma that often accompany transition provide a passageway for us to move forward. Much of my work explores the body as a vessel and the complicated relationship between trauma, compassion, and healing.
While reflecting on how bodies undergo transition and how we process loss, I am fascinated with how wounds – both physical and emotional – become markers of injury and recovery, trauma and triumph. Compassion does not omit trauma but rather embraces it as part of the complexity of healing. Compassion provides space for us to mourn our previous and evolving selves, and in time, to rebuild. Choosing compassion becomes essential for how we persist and progress.
