STATEMENT
This work is a study of how nature and power rhyme. These are snapshots of what is under the surface: seductive gardens, playgrounds, sensual and scary things…. some frightening. Are they microscopic or large enough to climb inside? You are invited in to explore and play.
Process Remarks:
This work is digital.... I use CAD [computer-aided-design] software, fractal software, painting software and digital photography to show you what we don't pay attention to. Some of the work is printed on aluminum via photographic process, some printed on metallic film and bonded to the reverse side of clear Plexiglas. Some pieces are printed at high resolution on smooth paper and teased with acrylic. Craftsmanship counts.

Block
Regular price $300.00"Block" is from "Architectural Emphasis," a study of formal aesthetics creating flat color planes from images of architecture. The image is from life and is unaltered. It was scanned from medium format film, then digitally output with archival paper and ink. Image size is 18” x 18”. This archival digital print is a limited edition of 15. Available unframed or framed in Brazilian cherry, with 1.5" border. The overall framed print dimension is 22" x 22"
Ships within 3 days.
STATEMENT
“Architectural Emphasis” is a study of formal aesthetics creating flat color planes from images of architecture. I am interested in the geometric patterns and texture presented in these large photographs. The varying hue, light, and tones and its effect of visually flattening the photograph make these seem more like paintings than images born from a camera . I use the buildings structure and shadows to compress the image into a flat plane, addressing attention to the composition of shapes, texture, and color.

STATEMENT
I have found that while doing a painting outdoors I am immersed in the moment. What I mean is that later when I look at the painting I can remember all the things that went on as I painted, the weather, the birds singing, a small animal moving through the scene, people who have stopped to talk to me. The memories are all part of the painting.
Thomas Buchs attended Layton School of Art and became an Illustrator, creating artwork for many national and local companies over a 42 year career. During summers he exhibited at Art Fairs, and also did Pastel Portraits.
Recently he has concentrated on Plein Air Painting (painting from life outdoors). Much of his current work is representative of this discipline. He tries to capture the light and atmosphere of a scene within a few hours. he believes that a painting is not just a two dimensional illusion, but also that of a moment in life, captured by an artist on canvas.
Thomas is a founding member of Wisconsin Plein Air Painters Association. The WIPAPA has been established as a state wide fellowship of artists dedicated to promoting and practicing the traditional discipline of Plein Air painting. Members seek to honestly interpret the natural and man-made beauty and diversity of Wisconsin's landscapes and culture. They strive to enhance member's skills and reputations by providing regular opportunities to paint outdoors together, and to critique each other's work and share their expertise with fellow artists, in order to maintain the highest standards of the Plein Air painting tradition.
