Painted and sewn canvas.

#10 heavyweight canvas is pre shrunk by the artist to stabilize it and prevent buckling. She then primes both sides, twice. The front is then sanded for a smooth working surface. She coats the canvas with 2 - 3 coats of exterior latex paint. Colored pieces are then cut-up, patterned and sewn together like a quilt. The completed piece is then finished on both sides with a clear, flexible water-based varnish. Finally, the edges receive a folded and glued hem to to give them a clean finished look and help the piece lay flat. The floorcloth shown in the image is 3' X 5'.
